Second International Workshop of the SFB 986

The SFB 986 "Tailor-Made Multiscale Materials Systems" at the Technical University of Hamburg (TUHH) invited to its second international workshop from June 19 to 21, 2019. More than 90 international researchers and leading experts met for scientific lectures and exchange.

The aim of the SFB 986 is to investigate material properties on various length scales through the joint expertise from materials science, chemistry and physics and thus to design new multiscale materials with outstanding mechanical, optical or electrical properties. During the three-day workshop, researchers of the SFB 986 presented highlights of their scientific work on the topics "photonics & metamaterials", "nanocomposites & architectured materials", "porous & network materials" and "interfaces" in the form of lectures and posters. The program was supplemented by lectures by 14 renowned international guest speakers, including ones from the USA and Taiwan, whose research areas are thematically close to the SFB 986. During an evening harbour tour with dinner on the MS Hammonia, a scientific exchange and lively discussions took place in a pleasant and convivial atmosphere.

The programme of the workshop and abstracts can be found on the homepage of the SFB 986.

The SFB 986 currently runs in its second funding phase from 01.07.2016 to 30.06.2020 and is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) with more than 11 million euros. The proposal for the third and final funding phase will be evaluated at the beginning of 2020.
